About the Residency Program

The Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at the UC College of Medicine University Hospital is a fast paced four years that meets a broad range of educational, vocational, and social needs for the prospective candidate.  These are provided in an environment of state of the art care, supportive supervision, and fellowship amongst the residents.  With its nationally renowned University faculty, its two busy affiliated hospitals and its active part-time teaching faculty, the residency offers candidates the opportunity to graduate amongst the most well educated, experienced and capable practitioners in the country.  The level of training and the national reputation of UC College of Medicine University Hospital and its faculty enhance opportunities for fellowship training following residency, both within the institution and nationally.

The OB/GYN residency program is accredited for 7 residents each year for a total of 28 residents.  The residency program currently consists of 23 female residents and 5 male residents.  The program strives to be diverse. The program recruits residents from both allopathic and osteopathic medical schools.

The curriculum consists of rotations in the ambulatory and hospital settings.  The rotations are currently 3 and 4 weeks in duration with exception of a few rotations that are 7 to 8 weeks in duration which include Gynecology, Oncology, 1st year Christ Hospital Gynecology, and 1st year Family Planning and Ultrasound.  Each resident receives 4 weeks of vacation taken in 1-week increments throughout the academic year.   Our program is on a night float system all 4 years while rotating on Labor and Delivery.  The 2nd and 3rd year the residents complete 1 night float rotation at our community hospital affiliate, Christ Hospital.

In the 3rd year, a resident may take a 4 week elective rotation.  Several of our residents have completed electives at Mayo Clinic Cleveland and Brown University for Urologic Gynecology, Brunschwig Rotating Residency Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering, overseas to Tanzania, and MD Anderson Felix Rutledge Fellowship for Gynecologic Oncology.
