Beyond the Bubble
Labor and Delivery staff and residents affectionately refer to the resident/attending work room as “The Bubble” due to its large glass pane wall, giving outsiders a view as if looking into a bubble. This is where the group watches fetal tracings, discusses patients, and completes safety rounds. As the home base of the L&D team, this is where memories are made. No OBGYN tour is complete without our applicants peering into (and out of) the bubble!
One of the most important features of any academic department is its educational programs, but what makes the UC Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology unique is its scope.
Our commitment to developing the future of medical professionals is clearly evident in our day-to-day activities.
-
Facutly as Teachers
The UC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology employs a diverse and talented faculty that is responsible for training medical students and residents in obstetrics and gynecology and subspecialty fellows in Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility and Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology.
-
Medical Students
Education and training for students, residents and fellows is a core daily activity of the department. We not only offer core clerkships and fourth-year electives for our medical students, but we also afford them hands-on experiences through shadowing and mentoring opportunities.
-
Trainees
Through our accredited four-year OB/GYN residency training program and three sub-specialty fellowship programs, the department trains 28 residents (seven in each year) and 10 sub-specialty fellows each year.
